Approximately 1 in 3 Australians are Centrelink customers, but a fewer amount rely on Centrelink for their entire income.

These people are living way below the poverty line no matter where you draw it. In fact a recent report from the Australian Council of Social Services noted that more than 1 in 10 Australians are living in Poverty.

So with all this going on around us why don’t we see it?

Is it because we are not looking?

Maybe its because we are too engrossed in our own lives that we do not consider the issues of our neighbours, whether they be living next door, in the next suburb or out in the bush.

The Welfare Rights Centre is challenging those with an interest in their community to seek out examples of poverty and take a photo. These digital images can be submitted for special recognition during the 2009 Anti Poverty Week as well as cash prizes.

The prize is open to all ages and different categories of professional and amateur will apply.

More details will be released at the launch function which is to be held at the Stones Corner Hotel on the 15th October
